Yes, that is the top hatch, and the dark ring is oily handprints and wear from sitting in the hatch during taxi.

That is the paint job that gets my vote, Gary, with one exception- tail number 71 was the first aircraft destroyed at Pearl Harbor, and I think that aircraft is the one I would replicate. At any rate, I'll try to come down at some point to help as well! Keep up the good work!

Interestingly enough a website displaying this picture has the aircraft listed as Serial No. 40-2369

If you check Mr Baughers website it has this:

40-2369 to Consairway. Salvaged at Kingman, AZ. Nose section exists with Robert Kropp collection, Mesa, AZ.


40-2369 is listed in the registry but with no further information or photos.

Robert does have some pretty big B-24 pieces crammed into his T hangar.
I'm not sure it lives up to the lofty description of The Robert Kropp Collection.

You wouldn't have pictures of Mr. Kropp's collection would you? Atleast the B-24 in question.

That paint job reminds me of one H&P's PB4Y2's I Think it was tanker 121 that was painted up kind of like that we use to call it the "Wonder Bread Plane" I think they had that paint job in the late 70's early 80's.

Shay, no pictures sorry. Maybe I can describe the "collection".

Picture a single T hangar. That T hangar has a couple of large B-24 sections filling the center to the back wall. Small pieces of airplanes are then stacked in every available open spot. Kinda of like your catchall closet at home, you know, the one we all have that when you open the door all the stuff falls out.

Sorry ... I just thought THAT dark spot was a hatch or window...the prop shadow looked kinda weird to me...so...



I like the short nose with the camo and the flag.
It would be a cool paint job...with the LIL art on the other side of course.

Here's another little progress report for y'all. Finally got a single volunteer to show up (Don Obreiter), and it's amazing the amount of disassembly that can happen with two people going after it!
We now have all of the control surfaces off (going to be recovered), we have the old wooden cabinets and a partition removed from where the navigator's station is going to be, and we have all of the floorboards removed. Interestingly, the tunnel gun position (on the belly, aft of the waist gunners) still has it's original structure there, so I'll probably go ahead and get the plug for it drilled out and then start back on the fabrication of some of these other projects I've got going. I just don't want to get toooo much torn apart before I dig this hole so deep I can't get out.
It's a shame there has been only one volunteer to come out to help so far. Everyone is missing all of the fun work. Anyway, here are some pictures...
