Inside a Sunderland!

VERY nice pictures inside the MOTAT Sunderland.

I will try to find the background on the veterans. Looks like a nice story.

it is the back side of the nose turret, looks like it would be a bit drafty behind the turret,

I spent some time inside the one at the Southampton Hall of Aviation (now renamed). It is well fitted out with a civilian interior. Looked ready to go! A very nice display.

The Sunderland has since had it's exterior refurbishment completed, and is indoors at MOTAT. A refurbished front turret was fitted several weeks ago. Restoration of the interior continues.

I thought the same thing! Perhaps the tail turret??

No, it is the front turret, which slides back into the fuselage.

Note grappling hook on the right I mean starboard side, and access to the turret in the forward position. The anchor is further aft.

Part of the winch in the lower foreground. See the 5 foot high anchor to the right (there is a clearer photo of it in my album).
