How about Brakes vs Breaks

Ok, I will be the antagonist this time around. Since the hyphen is absolutely silent, and both P-51D and P51D read EXACTLY the same, then what difference does it make? No offense to the OP but could it possibly be related to OCD?

I see your Columbia (as in Country) and raise you a "musuem" for a museum :drink3:

Rearranging into English:

"And how will the proper use of a hyphen save an airplane?"

Which allows us to answer that this thread is about designations and historical accuracy, not aviation safety.

So I'd suggest starting another two threads:

1. Why does my PC rearrange the words I write? ("the write I words does my PC rearrange why")
2. Aviation Safety.

It'ain't no matter of no 'riting correctlike, if the perpose is jest communikeishun, but then there's certain beauty to knowing and using your language properly, with all the thingies where they should be, the dots crossed, and the tees dotted.

AT-6G = T-6G

A1-E = A-1E, unless, of course, it's actually an H-model mistaken as an E.

Herc = Herk

I feel better now.

My biggest rant with this site is the Subject names. Subject names need to include the type of aircraft or other details to be searchable later

examples:
I need help (on what?)
Has anyone seen this (type of aircraft)
Reunited (with what)
Pilot notes (aircraft)

for WIXers (or is it WIXer's) who go back and look for old threads, this would really help

Can we start using the hyphen again?
Too many here are getting sloppy...we (of all people being a U.S. based forum) should be using the correct U.S. designations.

Its P-47...C-47, etc.

It's not like I'm asking you to switch from Me-109 to Bf-109...or MIG to MiG. :)

Huh. My pilot certificate says N-B25......guess I should call Oklahoma and tell them they are screwed up.

What difference?
Because one's correct.
Does that still matter?
Hopefully you spell your girlfriend's/wife's name correctly. Failure to do so may have some consequences.
Just for argument's sake, suppose someone here asks for a book on the "F4F'...does he mean the Grumman Wildcat or a German Phantom?

Aviation (and therefore its history) is a technical science and sometime details do matter.
"Why bother to set the altimeter, it's the same airport we took off from yesterday?" :)

Gee Doc, do many diagnoses over the internet, or just being a troll?
