OK, enough already...Seems this chip making "career" is over with the exception of some 100 degree chamfers. Ironically, none of this detail was shown on the drawing other than as a sketch. Had I not had a part to compare to (needs to get riveted back in the donor wing section) I would have been pooched. Happy with the outcome though.

Without the sample, this detail was not available from the print and we would have been pooched.

Kicked the head over 8 degrees and used a fly cutter

Ok Scott, you can fess up now. It's obvious that you worked on the Corsair production line during the war.

Stunning work.

sdennison wrote:Ha, for sure but then I'd have to be smarter and figure out how to support a Haas VF5 or the like. Too small potatoes here but this was only a couple hours. Probably take me that to program and run if I knew how. I like makin chips.

Programming in 2, or 2 1/2 axis isn't really that hard but I always did pride myself on being able to do the same work on conventional tools (although it's been a few years). It's hard to find people that can turn threads on a manual lathe or setup and mill a part like yours.

Good work!! I mean really, really awesome work!!!

I envy being able to play. ~J~

No particular reason other than I wish someone someday would paint a currently flying F-86 like the first photo in this thread ;)

So, it pays to have friends with EDM capabilities. These are fittings for the elliptical tube struts that strengthen the center section airduct rib.

Then we need to deburr and fit to the actual tubing

Also need to finish the elliptical tubes formed from furnace annealed round blanks

Die set in the press

No longer round
