John Cuday (ICAS President) came on WRL today and cleared up the rumor with just the facts: http://www.warbirdradio.com/2013/10/bre ... ve-ep-521/

Here's to the 2014 season being better than 2013!

Thanks Matt - I certainly hope so!! We got a 2014 SAF/PA approval but when I called NAVCO they just flat said thanks but it is the Blues and funeral fly overs only.

Information regarding the Thunderbirds and other Air Force assets in this story:

http://www.airforcetimes.com/article/20 ... /310240013

It would appear that among other items we cannot expect Air Force aircraft as static displays at civilian air shows, Opens Houses/Air Shows at Air Force Bases and installations may happen in some cases but not all, and that single ship demos may or may not happen next year.

Sounds like overall better than this year from the standpoint of Air Force support for air shows, but a lot less than in prior years. With the budget constraints on individual bases, it is not clear that there will be very much money available to attract civilian acts and warbirds to fly at military bases that do hold air shows. Hopefully at least a few big shows like Nellis and Andrews will be able to bring in some civilian warbird acts to enhance the show like the Ace Maker T-33, Randy Ball MiG-17, The Horsemen, Collings Foundation, Warbird Heritage Foundation, etc.

Thanks for the article - like Tom Walsh said - it is time for air shows to move on and get over the fact that we will probably not see modern military aircraft at most shows for at least the next couple of years.

Personally, while I understand the move to save money, I think it is sad. I feel that more people got a up close and personal introduction to the Air Force and Navy via the static jet displays. They are able to meet and talk with military aviators on a personal level. You just cannot do that with the Blues and T-Birds. It is kind of like trying to meet a rockstar and chat at a aftershow meet & greet with 200 other people! In the coming years I think they (USN/USAF) will see a drop in the levels of recruiting as a result of this change in static displays. Thanks Washington.

I believe this is precisely what is desired. All the branches have been trying to get rid of people for a while now.

The web site for the air show at Selfridge ANGB shows eight civilian acts so there must be a budget for it. It also shows possible static display of nine military types that are not based there. It will be interesting to see what they actually end up with.

And for all you warbird air show lovers who may often bypass the "General Discussion" page and go directly to the WIX Hangar, there is some very interesing air show information under the "Air Shows, Events, etc..." forum on that page including forums on next week's TICO Warbird show:

viewtopic.php?f=13&t=52425

And Forums on May's Planes of Fame Show in Chino, CA and Wings Over Houston in early November.

In addition to Thunder Over Michigan in August which has its own forum in the WIX Hangar, all of these shows are planning really OUTSTANDING warbird presentations this year.

This seems like a really exceptional year for warbird air shows in the United States.
