Either 4 or 6 of the 'Blackjacks aerial demo team' doing some initial early work up stuff (hard to see those little buggers against a marine layer of clouds) for the coming airshow season. The team of up to 18 RV homebuilts and flown by airline pilots, demonstrate large formation precision work all over the Northwest. They do workups in small groups and eventually add all the airplanes. In a group they are pretty impressive!

At 0245 Sunday morning, I'm sawing logs and wake up just enough to recognize the sound of a C-47 heading North coming in my open bedroom window (my neighborhood is beyond very quiet)at a distance of probably 3 to 4 miles as it was a very low buzz but had that DC-3 note, nice to think that at least one old girl is still working for a living

Saw a De Havilland Vampire take off from Detroit City airport Saturday 8 June while fueling my Archer. First time I've seen one fly, very big surprise to see it at KDET

You are very likely correct, the aircraft with it was the Super Pinto, which is now based at KDET.

The Vampire has a different (new?) paint scheme compared that shown on their website. Also, the Vampire used every last inch of the runway to get airborne, sort of got my attention.
