This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Too bad it's not THE better known AF1. I wonder what the smallest aircraft was ever known as AF1, maybe a USAF Lear?

According to the NUMSAF, Ike's Aero Commander was the smallest AF-1.
http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/factsheets/factsheet.asp?id=572Interesting that the DC-9 has an N-number..is it airworthy? I'm surprised it didn't automatically end up in the NMUSAF collection.

Nice, that would make a heck of an "exclusive" executive jet! Although, I would imagine that the fuel burn on an older plane like this would make a lot of serious operators think twice. And I wonder when the interior shots were taken, it might not be so pretty after sitting in the Arizona sun for a few years.

It's a VC-9C. All of the C-9 variants are being or have been retired. It didn't have an N number in service and my guess is it was a requirement to get one when it was transferred from the USAF to the GSA. I was surprised to see that it was ever used as an AF1 as the VC-9 was similar to the C-32/757 in its mission. Being used as AF2 I could totally see.

To the best of my knowledge, no president ever flew on a C-21 (USAF Lear 35).
But the did fly on USAF Gulfstreams...C-20s...and of course JetStars (VC-140s) before that.

I seem to recall that there were two of them on the ramp at Willy when I was there a few weeks ago.

It's only called AF 1 or 2 IF his nibs is aboard or the VEEP, when Nixon was heading into the sunset as Jerry was taking the oath of office, AF 1 became AF 26000 to ATC.

But in popular American discourse, anything that ever rubbed against the posterior of sitting President is AF1 (or Marine 1, or in one case Navy 1) forever, and should have a temple built around it.
I'll be surprised if this does not find a home.

Well, we really don't know, do we?
But I believe any plane ML rode is designated "Air Force 69" or "Strategic Lustful Underling Transport 1" (generally known by the initials).

There were 3 VC9Cs; 73-1681/2/3. 73-1681 and 1683 are those at Williams civil registered N681AL and N683AL, 73-1682 has indeed gone to NMUSAF presumably without taking up N682AL which the FAA shows as unassigned.
I imagine they could be made airworthy quickly if they aren't already. Good luck
proving it ever was AF1 and for whom.

Well it's generally an accepted fact that Elvis owned and drove every pink 1956 Cadillac ever built
