If I remember right, Gary Austin said that the CAF contact the Doc's crew to propose to take part in the re-engine project (probably to reduce the cost of the operation by building more engine) but the offer was declined.

I wonder how the FAA feels about having another large warbird in the air?
I hate to say it, but I could see them coming up with engineering excuses to keep the plane grounded.
The CAF is too big (and certainly a grandafter clause might come into effect sonvce they've had Fifi for so long), but a new group without the political clout the CAF enjoys, might be a tempting target.

Have you read the list of the principals behind this new group? I would think that they would be able to muster plenty of 'political clout' if required.
