I'd hate to have to clean, gap and test all the spark plugs, 56 on each engine.

That is great news. Can not wait to see both in the air together. FiFi should be there on doc's first flight back. Let the two of them have a nice little chat the night before, then go flying. How long has it been since two B-29s have even been parked next to each other.

Any reason they can't have same hybrid engines as Fifi built for them by Anderson Airmotive?

In the past, Tony Mazzolini, leader of the restoration group said the plan was to restore the plane to its exact initial state, and that this point was part of the deal with Boeing who was housing the restoratin in its facilities.
If I remember right, Gary Austin said that the CAF contact the Doc's crew to propose to take part in the re-engine project (probably to reduce the cost of the operation by building more engine) but the offer was declined.

This is what I've heard too.

Lets hope this changes. I think it makes a ton of practical sense to re-engine doc, like fifi.

I've read where the FAA has doubled the number of inspectors in the last coulpe of years (source: Martha Lunkin, an ex-fed, in Flying magazine a couple of mo0nths back).

I wonder how the FAA feels about having another large warbird in the air?
I hate to say it, but I could see them coming up with engineering excuses to keep the plane grounded.
The CAF is too big (and certainly a grandafter clause might come into effect sonvce they've had Fifi for so long), but a new group without the political clout the CAF enjoys, might be a tempting target.

Have you read the list of the principals behind this new group? I would think that they would be able to muster plenty of 'political clout' if required.

I didn't realize she was that far along.

That doesn't sound right, but hopefully you get my drift.

There's nothing like a B-29 all polished up in Natural Metal Finish. This plane already looks spectacular. Hopefully they can find some gun turrets for her...
