WTK Identification of C-47 scrapped in Atlanta around 2002

Wanted to know identification of a C-47 or DC-3 scrapped IVO the Delta Aviation Museum, Atlanta Georgia. The C-47 had red, white and blue stripes on her tail at one time but was almost silver when scrapped? Any help....I have the last 10' of the tail.....but no ID and I don't see any data plates. Help! Thanks, Van

Each frame SHOULD have a steel stamped (fairly small) multi digit number on it someplace, that's how the factory made sure the parts for each airframe got on the right airframe, from that the s/n & Customer can be located in records. Good hunting!!

If you are talking part numbers....that won't help me. I can't find a craft number, build number or serial number anywhere on the tail.

No one remembers her? She was scrapped around the same time as N145JR in Atlanta. But this tail is not from that aircraft.

It's not a part number, it will be a fairly small steel stamped 4 or more digit number like '4717' and should be consistant on every frame, it's the line number for stores parts pick during assembly.

Is this specific to the C-47 or DC-3? I've never seen anything like that on other WWII aircraft that I have worked on/recovered. I have seen build plates and inspection plates made of aluminum or phenolic material, but never one that you describe of in steel. Do you have a picture of one?

More info has come to light after talking with one of the Delta Airline Museum historians. This tail and N145JR were obtained for parts (not scrapped on site) for the restoration of Delta "Ship 41". Anyone recall these two aircraft being brought there in 2001/2002 and where they may have come from?
