Omaka 190 fires up....

for the first time since April. Prop blades have been repaired and fitted, gear doors are fitted, drop tank (yet to be plumbed and refined), markings a bit more accurate to reflect Rudorffer's 190A-6 in Finland, but still awaiting permission from the owner to apply the crooked cross. (edit -just received!)
Flight testing should resume in a couple of weeks.

Spiral was painted using period photos of Rudorffer's aircraft as a reference, but if you have different or further info that would be good to hear. (of course it could just be because we are in the Sth Hemisphere ). Swastika is now applied and further detailing is underway.

That is one of the shots referenced. We have some others, however all show the starboard side and as a consequence we were unsure if the devil motif (already applied when it arrived) was correct for that period. After consultation with various Luftwaffe scholars it has been removed....

Bit like the JG77 emblem on Black Six, I know the team weren't sure if it ever had the emblem on the RHS (it wasn't on the LHS), so it was only painted on one side

Ok, never seen one painted "backwards" before. Maybe the original had a lisdexic painter! I've heard it said 10 out of 9 people have lisdexia!

Almost there, stencils need applying. Small box on the cowl is to measure engine vibration (I think!)

Love the paint scheme! Seems to be an appropriate setting for the aircraft on a grass field as well. Congratulations to all involved.

Hi Dave

What was the problem? I attended the Easter show on the Saturday and was very disappointed the 190 didn't fly. What was the problem and what has been done (you mention a prop issue)?

As I understand, Don, the (dummy?) cooling fan let go some of the blades which chewed out bits of the prop blades as they departed. It was good to see it fly before the show, but obviously necessary and wise not to go on with the damage - massively frustrating as it must've been for all involved after a huge amount of hard work.

By the way, like the "gun bulges" on the cowl..
