Vintage Aircraft Weekend 2010 (Now with more pics!)

Mon Sep 06, 2010 2:24 pm

This is still a young event only in it's 3rd year but I think it will soon be mentioned along with names like Chino and Geneseo.

I want to start by thanking Jim Martinelli as well as Nancy and Lance Robertson. They made a dream come true for me on Saturday. I got to fly in Grumpy and shoot Impatient Virgin and Val Halla. I'd be lying if I didn't say a tear came to my eye seeing my favorite P-51 (I.V.) forming up at what seemed like a short reach away. I must also thank John Sessions for starting this event because if it weren't for him, dreams like this wouldn't be possible. Speaking of dreams, I was happy to set my friend up with a ride with Bud Granley on Sunday. She is a huge fan of his and she was very deserving of getting to go. That was also a dream of mine but I just had to pay forward my good fortune from the prior day.

Enjoy just a quick sampling of shots for now. I'll add more when time permits.

Wow! Al, those are beautiful. Is that your T-6? Ha ha

Awesome photos! Must have been a heck of a ride!

I was also wondering if there was any word yet about Doug DeVries getting his turbine Goose (N642) back to Everett from Oshkosh yet. It's not that it got stuck there during EAA AirVenture; it lived there for many years (owned by Jack Mark) until Doug bought it last April, but it needed an impossible amount of work to make it airworthy again before he could ferry it home. Just curious.

Al, those look great! Nice shot of Wampus and Bad K over GRUMPY. I KNOW Jim M. is gonna want copies of him in I.V. and I'll bet Greg would like copies of him in VAL- :drinkers: :drinkers: :D
About 60 aircraft in attendance and the crowd was pretty good too considering we had to compete with Labor Day weekend campers, BUMBERSHOOT music festival in Seattle @ the Seattle Center, and really iffy weather. everyone seems to have had a good time and several folks commented on how quiet the 87 was when it landed, turned around and left again heading North bound which is what it's doing in front of FHC's SPITFIRE.

Thanks everyone. I'll be adding more pics in the next day or two hopefully. Just been pretty busy around here as we're transitioning into being the new building managers of our apartment complex.

I'll most definately get prints made up for Jim. I still owe Nancy and Lance some from their "solo" on GA Day too.

Wunnerful stuff Al, really excellent (as usual!). Much appreciated, as I wasn't able to go this weekend. Very cool that you got to go up in Grumpy, too; I'm jel!

Thanks for posting...
