It was a strongpoint that held against Rommel, messing up his timetable, costing valuable troops, fuel and tanks that he could not afford to lose. A minor footnote in history perhaps, but one of the factors that eventually led to the overall North African victory. Had the troops in Bataan or Singapore held as Bir Hackeim, the Pacific war might have started off on a bit of a different note!

On Sweet Patootie, can be a term of endearment as in "You're my sweet patootie". ..girl friend, loved one.

Frankly, that comment is slur against the brave defenders of Bataan and the victims of the Death March. No troops any where ever did as much for thier country as the defenders of Bataan. Besides which there is evidence that thier defence did upset the Japanese timetable as far south as New Guinea and the Solomons.

The radio intercepts that ultimately led to the Battle of Midway were made from a station on Corregidor. Had Bataan not held out as long as they did (they were defeated as much by malaria and lack of supplies as much as the Japanese), it is likely that Midway would not have turned out the way it did.
