Frankly, that comment is slur against the brave defenders of Bataan and the victims of the Death March. No troops any where ever did as much for thier country as the defenders of Bataan. Besides which there is evidence that thier defence did upset the Japanese timetable as far south as New Guinea and the Solomons.

The radio intercepts that ultimately led to the Battle of Midway were made from a station on Corregidor. Had Bataan not held out as long as they did (they were defeated as much by malaria and lack of supplies as much as the Japanese), it is likely that Midway would not have turned out the way it did.
