Question for you photogs.

What iso and f-stop work well for recording the night aerobatic show? I have to shoot film 'cause I don't have a wide-angle for my digimonster.

I have never shot a twilight/night show but I have a 70-200 2.8 lens so I will be shooting with that. I plan to use a f stop of 2.8 and want to achieve a shutter speed of at least 125th-250th/sec so will adjust my iso accordingly. I will use a manual setting as pyrotechnics and headlights will affect the exposure in an auto setting causing the image to be to dark. Easy with digital as I can preview the images as I go and adjust on the fly.

Any input from those that have night show experience would be welcomed.

I was thinking a time exposure, more like the one on airventure.org. I have a nikon with a 17mm and a 28. Like to get a trail of lights with some ground in the foreground.

I'm thinking f8 (Maybe 11) and be there with 200 speed film. I will have my digital with me so I can take a couple quick ones with that to get the exposure close.

Sounds like we're going to need hip-waders.

True. ATC throughout the day had everyone exit on pavement.

But keep checking Steve Taylor's blog. He indicates that some lighter warbirds (and warbugs?) have been moving to turf this afternoon.

They've been parking all of the incoming Warbirds on the jet ramp as there is still alot of standing water and pretty much all the grass is squishy. While doing night shots of the Collings A-4/F-4 I had a soundtrack of hundreds of frogs. Seriously. It was pleasant but kind of eerie as i've never experienced that there.

And speaking of those shots...well, my dad's computer is not reading my SD cards so I can't even look at them full size let alone share them. Hopefully this issue will get resolved soon or it's gonna be a frustrating week.

OSHKOSH SOGGY: CHECK BEFORE YOU FLY


Three days of torrential rains have left much of Wittman Field at Oshkosh in seriously soggy condition just as AirVenture arrivals are picking up. Some aircraft were being diverted on Saturday evening to land at other airports in the area. EAA's Dick Knapinski told AVweb Saturday night that anyone planning to fly into Wittman should check the latest EAA AirVenture parking status at

before departing on the final leg into Oshkosh. The weather cleared Saturday night and Sunday is expected to sunny and warm. AVweb will have additional reports on Sunday.
