Randy, watch out for that crazy t33 guy.. good times will be had! we'll miss you JDK!
whats up with your knee? hope it gets better!

Hey Henning,
Nice to hear from you. I'm excited, and I'm not even going! Post lotsa pictures and 'true' stories you guys.

The knee (injured at Osh last year from that ever so dangerous aeronautical activity called 'getting into a car') is AOK. I'm not sure if T33 Driver is as recovered from the shock of having to be an emergency kneecap replacer though! :D

Fly safe everyone,

Cheers

And for those that were hoping to see the Harrier arrive...you're too late! :P

Neato.

For those who wish to sound like cognoscenti, it's a 'SHAR'. Obvious if you think about it. Art Nalls also gets my 'funniest restorers blog writer' award. I'll never look at the need for a road escort the same way after reading his comments...

While the Harrier is one of the most impressive aircraft ever, I'm not a particular fan, but I am of this particular one - because it was a huge ask getting it flying and it's one which people who know really said that "It couldn't be done". Art (and his team) have dun it, so mucho kudos.

Art's 'Escort' post:

Quote:
Second, the permit itself was actually straightforward, although no one in the entire State of Maryland has ever done this. Another aviation “first” sort of. Airplanes have been moved on roads, but as we were going through the permit process, most of the blocks were N/A or defied explanation. Imagine putting “towing a fighter jet down the road” into a small box. The agent was actually very patient and sincerely wanted to make this happen, which helps tremendously. The airplane was actually classified as a SUPER LOAD, but since houses have been moved on roads, an airplane should be relatively simple. Should be…

The permit required me to have 2 escorts. This was the easy part. Fortunately, the phone book has a section full of escort services and for once, they all happen to be very good looking. Plus they don’t mind working at night. I don’t understand what they know about towing aircraft, since most of them were named “Peaches” or “Bambi,” but a law is a law. Some of them were so attractive the airplane might have followed them on its own. Maybe that’s why they were required. So if two were required, 3 or 4 should have been better, but my wife intervened with a different definition of “escort.” Darn. Could have had some fun with the remaining 50% of my estate.

Have a look through the other posts. if they don't make you laugh, you're probably dead. ;)

Regards,

It looks like there may be 3 more Jet A burning engines on Aeroshell Square for part of the week. Once it is confirmed for sure, I (or RickH) will post some pictures.

Naw, naw, naw...designated driver. Apparently, there is something to semantics. Besides, it was only a citation. Have to try much harder to reach the next level of expertise. :drinkers:

All I remember was hearing a sudden, loud YOUUUCH!!!! I ran to the other side of the car to see JDK pointing at the protruding knee bone, urging me between curses to "PUSH HERRRRE" so I gave the golf ball-like protrusion a single sort pounding or shove with the heel of my hand...like it owed me money and...viola, a zen-like calm descended upon our friend. Holy crap! We hunted down a warbird pilot physician and he examined the knee for stability and declared it good to go but as a precaution recommended our friend stay off his feet which led to his electric scooter first solo and type rating the next day.

Mrs JDK put her (North American) finger on it when she said it's summer airplane camp for boys and girls... There's lots of fun, the aircraft are just in the middle of it all.

I can recommend T33Drivers emergency osteopathy, and I think he may have had an expanded vocab after I used a few Australian-only words brought on by knee pain...

Still there's always a silver lining. I know the best way to get around Osh - Electric old-man-mobile!

Beep beep!
