B-29 Dump at Tinian??

Fri Jun 25, 2004 6:16 am

I found this picture and was wondering if anyone here knew more about it or perhaps even been there? Were all the B-29's scrapped, burried or lefted alone with the closing of the war? Not just B-29's though. I noticed the tail of a Liberator sticking out of the pile. Also a couple of other aircraft hulks that appear to be O.D. green. Thanks for any input.

I posted this topic cocurrently on the Pacific Ghosts message board and got this response.

The only things you now can find are the leftovers of scrapping in the 3 dumpsites. Mainly landing gear studs, because all the aluminium was scrapped.

Like I've stated in the past, it would be awesome if one one of these dumps were discovered intact and were excavated.

This one was posted on a website that is now defunct; maybe someone knows of an online resource somewhere else. Not sure which of the islands...

I am guessing the only thing that would it would take to dig up the whole island would be $$$

http://saipansucks.com/about.htm Dunno if any of this is true, but it is an interesting read.

Just found some pics of the scrap heap on Guam, circa 1945. Cool pics on this gentleman's website.

What's the story on the B-24 offset bottom turret hole? RADAR pod or 'Joe Hole'?

I'll go out on a limb here and suggest that the upside down B-24 at the bottom of the second pic with nose art is TALE OF MISS FORTUNE....44-40991...Consolidated B-24J-190-CO
