I'm sure your taxes will go up too, then there is all that snow.

We must be kept safe from the evil doers and their airplanes. We must be kept safe at all costs. We indeed have traded personal liberty for the perception of safety, not even real safety. Time for a cup of tea, yeah that will fix things.

Greetings from Georgetown.
:Hangman: I went to the airport at 7pm last night and you would have no idea that anything had happened and I was able to go and work on the P 2 unchallenged . The local Police officer that was still there voiced his concern at the amount of Federal "activity" this event had and would create. I do not know what the answer is and my personal opinion is if an individual is set on committing a certain crime or activity even if its with a submarine, how are you supposed to prevent it??
Key cards, fenced entry, thumb prints...nothing would have stopped this. What i did find VERY interesting and Scary is today at work i received a shipment from a LTL carrier that i unloaded off the back of the truck. The driver asked me if i had heard about "the idiot yesterday". I replied that i had to which he responded " i think that even if it takes away liberties, that if you dont fly for the commercial's then you should not be allowed to fly at all".
Seriously people, this is what the "general public" thinks. I think that EAA, AOPA and those few organizations that fight for GA rights are the only answer as the hold maximum lobbying power. we all know that a flight plan has nothing to do with this, and we can but wait to see what comes down the pike now.
For now we go about our business as if nothing had happened. Something tells me that changes are coming whether we want them or agree with them.

Simon,

As someone who's been to GTU from the ground side, as well as flown in and spent some time there on the ground, I couldn't agree more. I really think we have to work really hard to help those around us understand the truth of the situation - and the fact that the real issues need to be dealt with at a much lower level - like friends and family - and that some things really aren't preventable. What would happen if some dude decided to do this with an F-15, a commercial jet, a tractor trailer, a car, or something similar? No amount of flight plans, restrictions, or security can protect us from someone with access and intent who's already on the inside. He could have killed more people with a bow and arrow, though the visible damage wouldn't have been as great.

Ryan

Sad to say the media will have a field day with this and make things tough for everyone in aviation.

Just to be picky, the media won't make it hard for anyone - it'll be the Feds of whatever flavour offering noisy but inefficient extra security measures.

Perhaps you are right.
It will be the Feds, but the media is the one that will direct public opinion... (at least until Tiger Woods has another affair, then they will be on to other things.)
I was only thinking of the Feb 17,2010 story about how airports cause concern and worry.
http://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local-beat/Three-Die-in-Peninsula-Plane-Crash-84626092.html

There are always people who are concerned... But the media will exploit unfounded worries for their best gain.
Those conerned people will be the only ones interviewed.
It is then that the Feds must take action. (that is how it will make things tough...)

One loser messing up a good thing for all. We watched it all lunch hour long yesterday and the highlight of it for me was when the Austin PD officer in charge at the scene ripped up some bottom feeder news person about "irresponsible news reporting".

The rest of you fly safe.

Twenty-four hours later who got the most media coverage? Thank you Tiger for small favors.
