Nothing wrong with manual mode! It's been close to 20 years since I restored the mechanical end of a Martin 250. Although I never worked on the electrical system, I seem to remember reading that the normal life expectancy of those amplidynes was about 20-30 hours of operation. That alone might be enough to convince you that manual mode is a good thing!
As for the tunnel guns: Great, those Bell adapters are getting hard to find. Personally, I'd just like to see Dave get that tail gear tucked up first. I don't know if it's practical to do, but for some reason an extended tail gear (on B-17, P-40, PV, or whatever) always reminds me of a guy with his fly open.
