I have a question, that maybe someone can figure out for me. I am updating my BT-13.com website and I noticed that the aircraft http://www.bt-13.org/42-1744/42-1744.html on my site, is the information that the gentlemen who owned it, sent to me just weeks before he crashed with his son in Conn.

Now, I looked up the N# on the FAA site, and the serial# information is not what he sent me, it lists the BT-13A as being manufactured in 1945, which cannot be. So, does the FAA just put on the registration information from whatever the owner submits, or do they or are they supposed to research it from the dataplate from the aircraft?

It has been my experience that there are numerous "typos" in regards to aircraft registration on the FAA website. There are numerous discrepancies, especially with antiques! They do not do any research to see if the owner is correct.

Hi Paul,

From researching surviving NA-64 Yales and RCAF Harvards, the only thing that I trust is correct on the FAA database is the owners name and perhaps their address.

To give an example, N3653G is registered as North American 'British Harvard' 3324 built in 1955. See here.
In actual fact, 3324 is a Noorduyn Harvard Mk IIB built in Canada in 1942!
