This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

THere are none so dumb as those who will not learn, none so blind as those who will not see. Every warbird flying, on on static display is an educational tool for the young to learn about how war is an ugly thing, and how it take a brave warrior to fight evil and oppression. It makes them ask questions, and IF mommy and daddy are educated enough, they can informed their developing little minds about the depression, pre WWII, the war, and post war America.....oh right, that is asking a lot, as there are a ot of mommies and daddies that don't have a clue. God, and I ever thenkful that I have educated my kids. One served in the Ar Force, the other trains the military

I'd guess that a good percent of the no votes were based on the possibility of having to run for re-election next yr against an opponent who could trumpet a yes vote during the campaign. I can imagine the ads already, so and so is "weak on terror" and "depriving our people of the tools they need to fight blah blah blah"

sickening but probably a self preservation motive for more than a few.

To add to the lack of education comment made earlier about TSA personel, my wife used to do daycare for several kids in our home. About 4-5 yrs ago she cared for a young girl being raised by a single mom who had made many bad choices already in her life. I believe she graduated high school but had no schooling or training beyond that. At the time her daughter was at our home, the mom was working a unskilled job at a small company in our home town. Later she stopped bringing her child because she "had a new job with a different schedule" and felt the child was old enough to stay home by herself now. (the girl was still very young at this point). Anyway, fast forward to last year as I was going through security for a flight, I was searched by the very same lady. Couple that with the story of the TSA person damaging multiple aircraft while trying to break in to them last yr (as a test to see if it could be done) and I've formed my own judgements of the qualifications of many of the ground level people working for the TSA. One can hope the lack of common sense doesn't permeate up through the various levels of management but unfortunatly it appears otherwise.

No. It's not. Remember who brought in the TSA and empowered them - President Bush. Your summary of the political spectrum is just so wrong that it's not worth discussing; and while you 'know you are right', just remember, it's those who 'know they are right' that are often caught out.

But here and now, and on topic, YOU need as many votes on your side as you can get - it was a cross party vote and it was narrow. Projecting your simplistic, irrelevant partisan views will alienate votes that you need.

Bruce has it precisely right.

Secondly your recent posts suggesting the creation of unairworthy aircraft replicas, and the 'just go fly' with an electrical failure in an aircraft indicates why there are mandatory regulations in aviation. I certainly don't mind if you kill yourself, but I do object to you killing others with stupidity, and I like to know my pilots and mechanics are trained and certified to standards, rather than the anarchist approach to aviation you are happy with

That's a rather defamatory characterization of what I had said earlier. I had said using the term "grounding" is rather harsh for an electrical problem. For an electrical problem, the use of word fix is far better. I didn't promote such an immoral and wrong approach as you are trying to pin me on.

Maybe what is missing within the TSA and government - both local and federal, is good old basic common sense, and doing what is right. I would love to see term limits in Washington.

But Gary, common sense is so boring ... all that long-range planning and practical application stuff. Yuck.

You can work up so much more of a sweat by running from/after terrorists. It feels just like you're actually doing something.

Yes, and keeping them smalll, few, and limited. Another possible idea would be to put time limits on the organization itself subject to re-election.

Bruce,
With respect, you have no idea of my political views because they aren't relevant and I don't trail them all over the forums.

If you (or anyone else) has a problem with my attempts to enforce Scott's forum rules that we all signed up to, regarding political comments, feel free to take it up with Scott, or feel free to set up another political orientated forum.

The ONLY reason politics is allowed here is where it relates to warbirds and aviation, and that needs to be on topic. Chris' remark wasn't.

As has been outlined there are smart ways and dumb ways of tackling the TSA issue. Choose wisely - your choice will affect many.

This amendment to the TSA Authorization Act has just passed a vote in the House, and by a narrow margin at that. What we need now is for every member of this forum (in the US) that will, write to their Senators and urge them to support this amendment when it comes before them. We need to let them know that a lot of us support this amendment.

Thanks Walt:

I write my senator a lot, and he says socialist big gov. ideas are losing ground in the senate and house as we speak. He says the secret to success is winning over the moderates on the left by selling them smaller gov. free market solutions instead of bureaucratic top heavy, draconian measures.

I don't want to list them here due to the narrow scope of this discussion, I can pm you some of the victories were already winning in other areas.

With that said, I will give my senator a call about this.

Good advice. Too bad the last group in charge turned their backs on that concept. Think of it as a pendulum, it swings far to each side, then passes thru the middle to gather momentum.

What a load of crap. I thought this political tihs was grounds for a ban

:?

Bruce, why'nt you and Chris form your own little warbird site, and go spout off over there. This is about warbirds, not political folderol.

I could use one of those hammers ya got in that bag over there.....

Not touching this TSA thread ... too easy!!! .... Greenwood would have a 'field day' with this one ... but some MOD EDIT banned him ... oops, sorry, that was a joke ...
you have no idea of my political views because they aren't relevant
... too bad this statement doesn't apply to ALL here ... Then WIX's political problems would be solved for good.

Nah, we'd all find something else to fight over... probably. The sad thing is we can't seem to figure out that no one's convincing anyone else for all the typing efforts - me included. I mean, how many threads (20+?) have we gone over the flying vs. static stuff...

That's a simple thing to answer Ryan, human nature begs for controvercy, differences in opinion, ego vs ego, insecurities, etc. ... some here gage their insecurities by how much more they think they know than others, or how they can get in the last word (and lock down a thread, that's a joke that doesn't need a response JDK ... ) ... I'm a very simple minded guy when it comes to WIX, I've been around airplanes all my life, but I also have a life beyond WIX ... I'm still having fun here, but I melt-down at times too ... All I can say is 'big MOD EDIT deal' it's just a simple website. I'll blow it again, just like many others here will do as well ... I think ALL members here, past and present, need to LEARN a bit more compassion, tolarance and understanding for ALL threads created in the best interest of WIX ... I have yet to run into ANYONE here on WIX who has bad intentions, even HGUCSU!!! ... take it easy and have fun .... and laugh at my melt-downs ... I'm sure thier entertaining at times ...

It's all too easy to comment on TSA without blaming left or right or getting involved in politics. The need for proper training and for control of any government agency has nothing to do with politics.
