I don't know, maybe flying heritage has a point...but then again...they never should have made the movie Memphis Belle since the real Memphis Belle was an F model (?) and they used a G model B-17, or there should not be a remake of the movie Dambusters as they were real Lancasters and not CGI. Yes, I know there will be some footage of real Lancasters used, but again, the wrong model. Come to think of it, I will never watch the movie Sink the Bismarck again as they were not real battleships, and battle cruisers used in that film either.
Come on, all sarcasm aside, this is a MOVIE, it is ENTERTAINMENT, it IS NOT REAL, but does try to be as accurate as possible. It is for enjoyment purposes, not claming to be 100 percent accurate....just enjoy the fact that you will be able to see REAL P-51's and REAL P-40's and at least one REAL B-17 fly and be filmed while doing so. Maybe the wrong model numbers, maybe not 100 perecent accurate recreation of a WWII fighter or bomber, but this will be as good as it gets. Remember, if you really are against such things as the make up being used in this film, then show it by not spending your money to go see it, and try and convince everyone you know to do the same...in the end it will show how many people agree with you.
I agree with whoever said it would be hard to turn over your 1.5 million dollar plane to someone you don't even know, just because of skin color, and hope that they bring it down in one piece.

I know if it was my $1.5mil aircraft it would be just me flying it. The color of skin has absolutely nothing to do with the matter. It's silly to infer race plays any role in the decision making process. If race did play a role, they wouldn't be having thier planes painted up and flying in that movie.

I wonder what this photo from Red Tail filming is men to convey to the public at large?

I feel its a poor attempt at showing a Africian/Negro pilot.. what do others think?

I have to say that my first thought was why they haddn't just blacked their faces but then I remembered that it's still pretty cold in CZ at the moment and having frostbite would be a pain. My guess it that the face mask is for open cockpit shots and I would imagine that any exposed skin even blacked would be frozen in a minute or so...

Just a thought from this Canadian thawing out...

I would personally say, that it is certainly not a race issue, because they are creating a film, to help people understand the trials and tribulations that black pilots had to deal with.

I personally love speaking to the pilots at the Wings of the North airshow and thank them everytime for the service they provided.

I love hearing the stories of how much pain they went through and the bull they put up with, and I think they really know now, that things have changed in this country for the better, when I young white man like myself, can sit and want to learn and understand how much they dealt with and to thank them from the bottom of my heart, how much I enjoy reading about them, and how much they gave to others when America was kicking them down. To me, they are real hero's for putting up with a country that hated them, and fighting tooth and nail because they loved their country.

1. Its a movie, not a documentary

2. Limited resources.

3. Are you really going to argue about trying to show the public a small piece of history with a heartfelt movie to help people get emotionally attaced to a historical event/figure.

I feel the directors of the movie could of with abit more thinking found a american pilot surely who is qualified on mustangs and flown him out. Wouldnt costsed as much more to do that for the scenes required.
