....this is not going to be exactly as the Consolidated folks had it back in 1940, nor is it going to win any $15 trophies at Oshkosh, but hopefully it will be a better representation of a bomber than it has been in the past.

Well, I'm of the opinion that you were wrong Gary... looks like that trophy is worth at LEAST $15 bucks

Ok, so I'm a little "slow". I just now picked up on Ol' 927's new N-number, N24927: "24" because she's a B-24, and "927" because that's her military serial number.

Gary, I have a question for you. At the Colorado Springs airport, there is a C-97 parked there and is used as a restaurant called Solo's, great hamburgers. Could you all use these engines/exhaust of those 3350 for the FiFi engined project? I assume that they are 3350's, but maybe a different dash model. There were pigeon's double parked on them. Maybe you all could work out a trade from them.

I think the C-97 used R-4360s (but I'm no expert.)

You are correct, the KC-97 at Colorado Springs has 4360s. Only the first three? C-97 airplanes had 3350 engines and also had the same vertical fin as a B-29, the rest being equipped with the larger engines and tails. I think one of the 3350 powered C-97s still exists, but my frail memory may be wrong.

That does bring up the question though..just how many C-97 parts would be usable on a B-29?

Interesting note. I found out last night from my father that my Great Grandfather and my Great Uncle both worked at the Consolidated/Convair plant in Ft. Worth and built B-24's during the war and then B-36's afterwards.

Was 'ole 927 made in Ft. Worth or San Diego?

She was made in San Diego...but she was a parts hauler for the Ft. Worth and Willow Run plants.

I can confirm that the photo you posted is from Fort Worth. I recently purchased an original copy of that picture with the printer stamp on the back. Notice the blister side windows and red national insignia borders. In the second photo you can see the hangars on the AAF side of the Base under the left wing, a sure sign that this was taken on the Consolidated apron at Fort Worth.
