Who's Winjeel is that? That's gotta be the only one in North America!!!

I'd love to get my hands on one of those someday. So unique to see over here.

Cheers,

David

Winjeel eh? I was wondering what the heck it was. I caught it departing Riverside after the show and couldn't figure out what it was.

I miss Chino!! Sigh -- been a long time...

Neal, I hear they have an airshow in May!

So I've heard, but my wife has been back East and in Europe for the last 6 weeks, and I think when she finally gets back in a couple of weeks we're going to need some quality time running around naked together in the desert somewhere in May. I'm afraid that even with all its attractions Chino's gonna be a bit too public for what I have in mind...

I don't know if that was a visual I really needed Neal----- nonetheless, watch out for scorpions!!!!!!

Neal,

You know I love you both dearly, but that was just... WRONG! :P

Thanks for the pic, bdk. Indeed a Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation (CAC) Winjeel, which is an Australian Aboriginal word meaning 'Young Eagle'.

As far as I know, it's the only Winjeel outside Australasia - recently refurbished in Aus after being sold to the present owner. That scheme's oh-so-wrong (with a incorrectly proportioned Roo roundel, fin-flash on the rudder and other sins) - yet so right. Apparently the owner wanted a 'different' and unique scheme, and this one is based on a colour scheme seen on A85-404 and A85-438 in the early 1960s; with a roundel that was only used for a brief period. A lesson that a 'wrong' scheme is sometimes very accurate.

If you want one, they aren't too rare here - there's 30 on the civil register in Australia. They're not a bad aircraft either - three or four seater, P&W Wasp Jr engine for the xenophobic-engineer and fully aerobatic, and everyone knows petrol's real cheap in N.America... :D

Neal...C'mon to Chino anyway. With the 3 P-38's flying, I doubt that anyone'll notice your nuditity. (With apologies to Radar O'Reilly.)

Mudge the cognizant
