Should we count storm damage like what happened to Weeks or NEAM, or even Pensacola or Mobile?

Weren't some of these fliers at the time of storm damage and or kept outside? i.e. the Weeks B-17

Steve

All of the aircraft that were deemed a total loss were displayed outside, but almost every aircraft in the collection received some damage that day.

MOST OF THE TOTAL LOSSES AT NEAM IN OCT. OF 1979 WERE THE LARGE TRANSPORT AIRCRAFT THAT WOULD'VE NEVER BEEN FEASIBLE TO SAVE FOR FUTURE RESTORATION. (C-24, C-133, C-119, CT-29, CONNIE, C-54, SA-16,ETC.)
There were some smaller aircraft, (F4D, S-55, F-86H, F-8 Crusader, etc.) that were also total losses. The airframes on the small losses were kept for parts reclamation, and some of those are still in storage to this day. Also, many of the smaller aircraft lost were replaced by other examples of the same type. They still have the nose of the C-133 in the storage area.

It sounds like you have been around NEAM for a while, would you have access to any photos of the aftermath, the Liberty Belle in particular, as I'm a big fan of the Belle?

Steve;
I do ave photos of her in various states of "disassembly", but you have to give the credit of the above posted photos to Phil!

Mine are slides that I haven't scanned yet, so it's not easy to post them. I've been a member since 1976 and was an associate curator for several years in the late 80's early 90's. I was on the committee that approved the trade of "Liberty Belle" to Reilly in exchange for the restoration of our B-25H. The museum director had the final word, but we all had to agreed that it was best for both aircraft and the museum.
