So is this fellow flying the Mustang a Wixer? Who is he and which airplane is he flying?

Edit...I answered my own question with a little Google search...Is this Ray or Mark Hanna? Still don't know which airplane it is.

That is the late Ray Hanna and it was filmed in Spain.

I found the plane with Google.
It is supposed to be 44-63788 (mustangsmustangs & warbirdregistry) according to this website.
There are two other Mustangs listed that participated in Empire Of The Sun.

I think the airfield sequences were shot at Tablada AFB - could be wrong, however.

Good guess on the airfield, but Tablada is too built up around the former airfield.
I believe the location of the prision camp and Japanese Airfield was Trebujena, Cádiz, Andalucía, Spain.

It was issue no 2, James.Incidentally the first WW I ever bought, I was hooked from then on!
The Mustang was 44-73149, the civil reg was G-PSID,owned at the time by Doug Arnold.

No, I afraid it's not an L-5. I forget the exact designation, but I seem to recall that it is actually a post-war Italian bird.
Anybody out there help with the ID?
