If you took a current picture of #57 in black & white, it would be virtually indistuingishable from the pictures from the '49 Thompson Race. It really is an amazing restoration. I'm glad they chose to preserve it's racing heritage in the restoration.

Is the Super Corsair under restoration by Bob Odegaard also going to be restored to Thompson Trophy colors?

The last that I heard is the F2G that belongs to the Crawford Museum that Odegaard is restoring will be restored in her present 1949 racing scheme. At least that was what i was told when I asked if they were going to putthe large air intake on that she wore winning the 1947 Thompson. #57 should also have this extension on but it was lost prior to Odegaard aquiring her and would further hinder forward visibility.

Here is a picture I got from a friend of mine Martin B. that lives around the corner from me. He had taken this pic back in the late 70s or early 80s.

my best friend's dad owned a golf course that abutted cleland's airstrip in the 50's. cleland crashed a pby on my buddies golf course, pissed his dad off royal, but that's another story. he's got primo pics as a teenager climbing all over 57. when odeggaard bought 57 from soplata & restored her he was / & is missing 1 key piece to it's authentic restoration.... the hood scoop on the top of the cowling. my friend has the original specs & drawings needed to complete odeggaard's restoration to 100% stock. incidently, he had a visit with dick becker recently, & he's still pretty spry for his age, thank god.

Hey Tom--

Not to nitpick...but Bob O didn't get Race 57 from Walt, since Race 74 was the one Walt had! Mr Odegaard did visit Walt's and recover some parts though in connection with his restoration of #74 for the Crawford.

Cool story about the Cleland PBY. The landing on the golf course might make for a neat painting... :D

I was told that Bob needed to get the canopy from 74 to make a copy for 57. I think he had a couple of copys made.
