This is probably a long shot, but I'm looking for any full photos that would show what the markings were for the F86 in the combat crew training wing in 1956 at Nellis AFB. I have a few photos I found on the web, but none are a full side profile.

Is the F-86 that's on a pole in "Freedom Park" there on Nellis in an accurate paint scheme?

I searched the registry to find the airplane you mentioned Randy and I found it interesting. I have found a few shots of just the forward section of the airplane with a unit insignia. The colors are interesting on the Sabre you pointed out. Anyone have some more pictures of the Nellis Sabre? If I could match the insignia to the picture I already have it would confirm the color bands.
I'd like to tie theses two together to get an accurate picture of what our Sabre looked like at Nellis.

Maybe this will help. Sorry it is not better quality, but was scanned from about a 4th generation slide in my collection. It is F-86A, 49-1092 from the 3525th Aerial Gunnier Squadron. Taken some time in the 1950's.

I am at Nellis the next couple weeks and will get some photos of it in the next day or so.

Thank you Randy. Did Nellis have more than one unit of F86's in the combat crew training wing? I know our Sabre was assigned to Nellis in 1956 but that's all the detail I have.

Here are some fresh shots of the Nellis static jet. It's obviously a Wing/Center Commander's jet, or something of the like, with colors that represent all the tail flashes of all the assigned units.

Apologies for the low sun angle, but I had one opportunity to go shoot it in the afternoon as the sun was setting. Unfortunately I don't get paid to go shoot photos, so time was limited!

Thanks for the pictures Randy. Does anyone know if the multi color stripes represented one squadron or each color represented a single squadron and this display honors them all?

The latter. Generally a "Wing" aircraft will carry one color for each of the squadrons like that.

As Randy Stated, Most "Wing Kings" Aircraft will have a special paint scheme on them.

For the 174th FW in Syracuse NY The tail flash of the Cobra is in Color where as the rest of the birds are in black on a gray tail.

The F111F's that I worked on in England where Randy is currently stationed, the Birds there had the tail flash "LN" that was black with a white drop shadow and then three color stripes at the tip of the tail flash to designate the 3 flying squadrons that were in the Wing.

So yes, the color stripes indicate the Flying Squadrons of the Wing.
