NACA P-39D-1 photo

Found a NACA report with a photo of a P-39D-1 used for some aileron testing. Thought it my be of interest here. This is the same early type P-39 that board member "Digger" recovered in the 1990s.

Just like Oshkosh! There's always that one guy that insists on touching his nose to the plane, while a dozen photographers wait for him to shuffle off.

From my experience I think the rule of thumb at Oshkosh is-"If somebody is standing in the way of getting a clear shot, he can't leave until there is someone else walking up to take their place." I've probably been in the way of somebody else with a camera a lot without realizing it too.

Interesting pictures. Note the first picture you can see a background ghost image of what appears to be a plan view drawing of the starboard wing complete with dimensions.....and he does sort of look like Humphrey Bogart in the second picture. Good Detail.

The "ghost image" is far from spiritual. The backside of the page has a wing diagram printed on it.

Scanning tip...

If you're scanning out of a book, rag or other publication... or anything with printing of some sort on the reverse, getcherself a black (or very dark colored) piece of paper and place it behind the page you're scanning. This should eliminate most, if not all traces of the printing from the reverse side.

Of course, if the ink has actually bled through the paper then you're SOL...

LOL! For airshow photography you need my patented 12 gauge people filter. You just rack one shell from the extended mag and they start running in all directions! I do believe you are right though....It's an unwritten rule that one picblocker cannot leave till another has wandered into the field of view from any direction possible.
I will have to admit that sometimes people were added to pics like this to give a reference as to size. There are a lot of technical shots like this of other aircraft with a single person in them for no apparant reason other than this. Seems like the nature of the times....
