This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Do any of you fine folks out there have access to information on the L-series blimps operated by the USN in World War 2? I'd like to get my hands on a 3-view drawing, vital stats and dimmensions, and or more pictures. I'm including a picture of the specific blimp that I'm most interested in.

I'll look through my stuff, I have some 3-View Drawings of blimps, but I don't think they are of the L-Series.

Is it as glamorous as a P-51? No. but it is a warbird.

L-8...the famous "Ghost Blimp"!
Somewhere I have a photo or two of her car while under restoration at Pensacola. Does anyone know if the car is on display yet?

You don't conjure up a picture of a blimp when someone says,"warbird" but, of course, it is.

Ryan,
WIXer Owen Miller lives in Mobile and frequents Pensacola on a fairly regular basis. He has access to the restoration area as well (if the car is still back there).
I will go through my photos (from June, 2005) sometime this weekend and see what turns up.

Thought I'd taken more photos of it, Ryan. My bad.
My excuse is that I was distracted by a Brewster on one side and a Coronado flying boat on the other.

Wow! Thanks for the picture, any more available, anyone? I'm also looking for a good detail shot of on of those L-blimps fthat shows the engines and the underside of the car.
Thanks,
Ryan

The archives of the Goodyear Aircraft Corporation are in the Lockheed-Martin Collection at the University of Akron. They might be able to help with drawings, etc.

The gondola still exists and is undergoing restoration at the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola, Florida. Dan K posted a photo of it taken in the NMNA workshop -- just scroll up in this thread and check it out!

Why is the L-8 infamous?

Why is the L-8 infamous?
In 1942 it drifted ashore near Daly City, CA minus it's crew. Theories range from murder-suicide, they fell out, captured by a Japanese Sub or a UFO abducted them.
