Any possiblity of it becoming a flyer?

I've always been a little curious as to why there were no P/F-80's flying. Especially given the popularity of T-33's.

I am almost afraid to ask (but after I read that a P-59 Airacomet was planned for restoration to be flown), is this P-80 shooting Star possibly going to fly at some point??

:?

TAdan - that's funny - we were thinking along the same lines.

I would guess yes based on these pics:

According to the Registry, there are only 7 survivors in the USA, all in the care of recognised museums. Unless there are any suitable airframes to be recovered fron S.America by private individuals, I'd say this one is the only possibility as a future restoration to fly.

What happened to the airframe that was up for bid at one of the Santa Monica auctions back in the '90s? That appeared to be a readily restorable airframe.

Dunno about that one, but there is a derelict T-33 at the Palm Springs Air Museum in the backyard now.

Years ago I read that someone was going to convert a T-33 into an F-80.
Anyone know any more?

There was a P-80 that was a gate-guard at the Montgomery County Airpark during the mid-to-late 1980s. I'm fairly certain it was a P-80 and not a T-33. Does anyone know what happened to it?

P-80 tip tanks?

Actually, if this is going to be kept marked as shown as a pre-1948 P-80 Shooting Star, then only the earlier style under wing "teardrop" style tip tanks would be appropriate. The larger later T-33 type tanks would be okay for an F-80C of the early/mid-50s period.
