A place where restoration project-type threads can go to avoid falling off the main page in the WIX hangar. Feel free to start threads on Restoration projects and/or warbird maintenance here. Named in memoriam for Gary Austin, a good friend of the site and known as RetroAviation here. He will be sorely missed.

Gary,
I don't know what your plans are for the re-paint but we (the AF) have set up a camera and taken still pictures (from the same angle) throughout the prepping, stripping, masking, priming, and painting process. In the end you end up with a nice slideshow showing the entire process from start to finish. Every few hours (or once in the morning and once in the evening) I took a picture (keep in mind it takes about 8 days to paint a Herc). Just a thought...

APG85, that's a great idea. I may do that even for some of the other mods I'm doing. However, with the time and money constraints, along with a recent episode with a stripper product we purchased, we are probably not going to be able to prep and paint the airplane as well as I'd like. It WILL be repainted, mind you, it's just that I don't think I'm going to be very proud of it in the end and may not want to have a slide show to document how that part of the project is going to be done. It's probably going to just be a "scuff & shoot" paint job this year. However, even as open as I've been with the little chores with this project so far, I may be a little embarrassed by the end result I turn out as far as the paint is concerned. But all hope is not lost. We are working on a "real" paint job that will possibly be done next winter.

What behavior Gary? The purchasing or the renting? Just kidding. Thanks for the update! How goes the battle this afternoon (well, still morning there, isn't it)?

No real progress today. Took some time to do some things that I haven't done in a while, such as.....see my house in the daytime, run errands, purchase groceries (from an actual grocery store, not a convenience store), and so on.

I'll get back to work at o-dark-thirty tomorrow morning.
