Believe it or not there is one by my house. No kidding. The guy bought it to use as a playground, but it was going to take too much money to make it child proof, so it sits here at the end of the runway at KAGC.

I will try to get the info for the owner. I think I have some pics of it. If you get bored, use Google earth, look for the Allegheny county airport, just south of Pittsburgh, PA and look at the approach end of runway 28. you will see them sitting there. I will try to get some pics, but I don't know what would be usable off of it, or if it can fly again.

I know very little about the F 84F. I'm just starting my research on them and the goal would be to have an airworthy example. I assuming this is a longshot as someone would have already done it if it wasn't. I'd appreciate any info you can collect. I'll experiment with Google Earth as you suggested too.
Thank you
David

What became of the flyable F-84F in the Thunderbirds paint scheme that was based at Mojave? I believe the owners name was Sharp.
Has I remember these modesl had some very severe engine issues with a number of fatal crashes including Col Cy Wilson wartime commander of the 20th FG.

David, I'm sure you've examined the example at Gateway Tech in Kenosha. How rough a shape is she in now (And would the school ever get rid of her?)?

I shot this pic at Addison Airport in Dallas in April, 1982. Sorry for the horrible quality. It was shot with one of those old Kodak Pocket Instamatic cameras with the 110 film! I did my best to enhance the image after I scanned it.

Cheers!

I have seen the F84 at Gateway, but never spent any time looking it over. I plan to look at it this week and take some pictures.
Does anyone know what the specific engine problem was? Rotating component failure, flameout, etc?
Thanks for the help.
David

Sabremech and all others. I am a member of the DVHAA ( recently retired restoration manager) and we have a F-84F very close to the picture shown in the previous post. We are looking for some parts. In particular a front wheel we have a tire. Also some hardware for jacking the plane, that may be stored in the wheel wells and other items. If you could look at the ones you have access to and let me know whats out there we would appreciate it. I had it airlifted from one air port to another by a chinook

Any help locating parts for this plane. We don't need much.

How far did the Chinook take your plane? Was it very far?

I remember seeing pictures of the F-84F Thunderstreak in Thunderbirds marking years ago and wondered about it. If it's true that the USAF/NMUSAF repossed it and put it on a pole, I am sorry to hear that. I do not know about the engine problems with these aircraft, but it would be nice to see one in the air. I know that some Air National Guard Units flew them into the early 70s. Does anyone know the kind of operating and maintenance experience that these units encountered during 1964-72 in continuing to fly them?

Jim C.

Hi; I was lucky enough to be at the Onterio? airport just in time to see that same f-84 make three touch and goes. It looked fantastic but on the last landing a hydralic line to the speed brakes burst starting a small fire. The F-84 was met by the crash trucks which made fast work of the burning hydralic fluid. Damage looked slight but as far as I know that was its last flight and I think the last F-84 to fly on its own. Thanks Mike
