This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

I've been finding it too hard to get hotel reservations and rental... looks like what I should be doing now and booking for the 2008 show... and I need to work on meeting more people out there, so I am not wandering around all day, aimlessly! :D

Oshkosh would be my ultimate trip though, it wins hands down.

My offer still stands to show you around, plus there are plenty of WIXR's that attend. We could find ya' a place to stay.

That's even funnier. The best reason to come is single pilots for this single pilot! Very Happy J/K

GOOD GRIEF! lol.

Do you know what to do when a single pilot shows up at your front door?
You pay him for the pizza! Laughing Laughing Laughing

Most single pilots are that way for a reason. They either love airplanes so much they can't keep women interested in them or they have just been in a nasty divorce that has left them pennyless and looking for another airplane, or both.

This is funny. This reminds me of 2 of the most profound quotes I have ever heard about aviation.

I was just a kid when I heard this one but it always stayed with me. Ed Schnepf (owner of Air Classics and Warbirds magazines) said, "Sure, there is plenty of money in aviation. There has to be because I put it there."

Another time also was at an air show standing under the wing of B-25J "In the Mood" when a kid came up and said to Bill Klaers who was doing a pre-flight of the bomber "Sir, do you own this airplane?"

"Yes." he said.

"Wow you must be rich." said the kid.

Bill chuckled and replied "Well, maybe I was before I bought this danged bomber, but now I have to look through the seat cushion of my couch for money to buy avgas."

Those are some profound statements about aviation.

I will be at Oshkosh this year, as I am every year. Do a bunch of you guys go?

I haven't missed it for 21 years. I was fairly new to WIX last year, but did notice that there was a WIX gathering right off the grounds at a WIXR's house. This year I will definately want to meet up with everyone.

A lot of single pilots suffer from AIDS (Airport Induced Divorce Syndrome).

At least that's what a lot of single pilots have told me.

Thanks for posting your pics from Evergreen. Those pics of the interior of the Hurcules are cool.

I would love to go and hang with you all.

OK, that's enough guys. I'm making a formal request to Scott that this thread be locked. A pretty girl makes a post and you guys stalk her with how many return posts? Be honest Stephanie, how many PMs did you get asking for your phone number? Watch out for these WIX guys in general. And really watch out for Jack Cook, he's really bad news. (Just kidding)

Here's a tip from your Uncle Al. Try not to take a paying position with Evergreen if you can avoid it. That way, it will not hurt so bad when Del Smith fires you. Don't get me wrong, it's a great company, great museum, and Del's a great person but he likes to fire people. I'm a charter member of the "I've Been Fired By Del Smith Ten Times Club" and believe it or not, there are quite a few of us in the club. I'm close to being at the top of the "All Time Fired By Del Smith Record" at sixteen times but I stopped keeping an official log after that. Two people actually got fired more times than I did but they are much older so it's not really fair. I only worked for him for a bit over two years so I should get some sort of special award for so many terminations in such a short amount of time. One time, he fired me twice in one day. Nobody else can claim that one. I finally fired myself. I've got a bunch of turret parts for the B-17 but every time I try to reach the museum's director or restoration head, I find out that person has just been fired.

Here's a good plan, and a great way for you to make a good first impression as a new volunteer. Take lots of photos of the inside and outside of the B-17's Sperry upper turret and Sperry ball turret and email them to me. I'll get a box of do dads and parts together and send them to you. We never really got a chance to finish the turrets on the B-17 the way I would have liked to so it's unfinished business for me. Show them this link below and tell them you and only you, can get the parts they want for free!

I'll be there again this year with the family. We typically only stay 1 day due to the crowds, lack of open hotel rooms, and the constant nagging of my wife saying..."can we leave?....I'm bored to death and my feet hurt from walking".
