What ever happened to Bob "Snackbar" Schneider's PBY? I heard he died some time ago.

Way to go, Gary! Thanks for sharing the pics with us, and for playing such a big part in saving the Pibby from those butchers!

Even with the hauling $4205 is a steal. Too bad the scrappers got the DC-3's.

Thanks for helping to save the PBY!
I remember it back in 1975 at the 50th Anniversary Pratt & Whitney Airshow when it was painted Red, White and Blue. Sad to see it's current state, but happy it's saved!
Great pics.

Thanks for the comments, but I'm not the one that saved this airplane. I am only a small part of this thing. It was Mark Pilkington who saved it. This guy bought it sight unseen from waaaaaay over on the other side of the planet. He's the one that should get the kudos.
And sorry Shay, no pictures of the Gooneys.

Gary;
Mark may not have been able to save it as eaasily if somebody like you didn't help out!
You are a big part of it being saved and I'm sure he appreciates it...as do we!
Thanks.

Airdales,
You are absolutely right, Gary has played a very large role in saving this cat, from his original role in trying to bid on it, through to his fantastic help to me on the ground over there, it certainly is a team effort, but I think we both agree it is well worth it.
Gary - thanks to you "Sea Witch" still has some life left in her yet.
regards
Mark Pilkington

Once again I want to thank Gary and Mark. I've been looking at pics of NBN from the good old days and we really had some good times with that airplane and there were great people involved with it, many of them are gone now. It's a shame it had to end and end up like this but thankfully it's been saved. I am going to pull these from storage shortly as I have to get some stuff ready for my uncle's service so I will post when I can. Thanks again. Also a question for Gary: The interior was pretty spruced up where the side blisters were, with wood paneling and nice covered seats what does it look like now?

You don't want to know.

Let's just say that it is probably better for you to remember it the way it was. It could use a good going through by an interior shop, that's for sure. The open blisters and exposure to the elements were tough on the wood and other materials used.

Howdy all
You guys maybe interested to know that the former Bob Schneider PBY-5A was also restored a couple of years back. It was restored and sent to Perth, Western Australia. It has been in storage for the last few years, but
now plans are underway for its display in the RAAFA Museum, Perth, Western Australia.
The U.S. Navy Catalina's operated at Pelican Point, Perth during WW2

Hmmm- Storing it in your backyard for a freind ehh. Is this how Sopalata got started with his collection. You better be carefull how many more you bring home- it is kinda like Ebay in that once you start you can never stop- thats alright though- at least a PBY is a good choice since there is plenty of room to sleep in it in case your wife kicks you out of the house.
