I remember about 20 years ago seeing an early model P-51 at Alton, Ohio Airport. Any ideas where is is now?

I'm not even sure where Alton Ohio is, but that sounds like Moon Spillers P-51A. I think he was based out of Versailles. N51Z s/n 43-6006 is still flying, but out in Calif these days.

Mike,

There is also a T-33 at Harrison County Airport in Cadiz Ohio. Ex Marietta, Ohio.

I think the ex-Florence F-89 is reported to be in a park somewhere in south eastern Ohio. I'll see what additional information I have at home.

Isn't there a gentleman who privately owns a Corsair and Mustang in or around Columbus?

Shay,

I think the only fighters in Ohio at this point are at Tri-State and maybe the guy in Poland still owns a P-51D.

Besides the Spillers P-51A, there used to be F4U-5s both in Cincinnati and Dayton, and a P-51D and Sea Fury in Cincinnati/Middletown. Nothing jumps to mind around Columbus. I'm sure there have been a few other P-51s around the state, but nothing current I can think of.

Thanks Jim!

I have added the entry as "Area". The Google Earth images in that area are poor, so I can't pin point it.

Thanks in advance.

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

J Preibe had a Mustang and Corsair for a while.

Then there were the Ortners. My dad used to help Dean on the Corsair.

Back in the day....

I was born about 15years late.

I just thought of this today, but there is a Cobra helicoptor on a pole at the Army Air Guard unit at Akron Canton Airport. I couldn't remember, are you doing all aircraft or just "planes" proper and not helicopters?

If it has an engine and flies (or flew, statics are most welcome) I would like to know about it. Helicopters are included, gliders are not. Museums, and aircraft on poles and in parks are to be added to the Locator, private aircraft in someone's hanger which may easily be sold, moved, etc., will not be added to the list.

Do you know where the AAG unit is in Akron?

Mike,

Here is the Springfield ANG base:

http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=39.849308~-83.838269&style=a&lvl=17&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000

I see the straight wing F-84 on the grass and something in the top center (A-7?) I don't see the third aircraft. This is not the way I remember the layout of the gate guards, but then again I haven't visited the field since the early 90s.

If you want helos there are lots more scattered about the state.

There is a UH-1 at a VFW Post in Medina:

Can't really see it, but it is on the little grass patch in front of the building.

Lastly...for now..., there is a UH-1 and AH-1 in front of the Ravenna Arsenal off Route 5.

There is/was a T-33 at Portage County airport (OH) for a long time...not sure if it is still there after the fire. There is a Cessna 150 on a pole at Tri-City airport in Sebring Ohio. There is a C-47 at Beach City Airport that I don't think is airworthy. Probably come up with a few more if I really think about it.

Jim

The Mustang that was long resident of Middlefield OH was sold to Ed Shipley and painted as Big Beautiful Doll. Baranaskus owns Priebes restoration, not sure where the Corsair went.

I knew Mr. Preibe had the Mustang, but which Corsair did he have?
