Two questions...

Who now owns the Silver cowled F4U-5 in the photo above? and...

Does the Planes of Fame East bird '301' fly any more or has it been grounded like the Kalamazoo bird?

Mark

Oh, and I can throw down some Corsair shots too....also from the Good old days...some even from Mint's Corsair gathering in 2002.....lemme get 'em scanned...

As promised....some Corsairs from over the years....these are some of our UK friends...

Image

From Breckenridge, when Dean Cutshall had the P-51 there one year and Howard and Vaughn Olson joined him..

Image

From Mint's Corsair Gathering in 2002, 4 F4U's and and F-18..

Image

I just like the way this one looks, a powerful stance while taxiing...CAF show midland an few years ago..

Image

Also from Mint's gathering in 2002...Corsair Tails...

Image

...and those same Corsairs running up prior to their flying in the show..

Image

Anyone remember the Air Museum's R-4360 pwered racer, lost in Phoenix about 1996? Gone but not forgotten..

Image

And quite possibly the most EXPENSIVE non flying model Corsair you will ever see, displayed next to Gary Kohs Award winning Corsair at OSH 2003...it retailed at $12,000 and was hand built from metal!

Image

Plenty more where those came from....

That is N4901W when owned by Dave Burnap of Dayton, Ohio.

Which plane is that in primer in the first couple photos?

Primered Corsair is the one that Brad Hood and Vintage Fighters first did #17 Jolly Rogers paint scheme back in the late 90's.

Nice pics.
I was at Oshkosh in 1994 when I think they had 14 or so Corsairs.
That phot of Bill Dodds and the other pilots brought back some memories.
Bill is sorely missed.

In 1994 I was driving up to Indianapolis from TN on I-65 and was making great time (forgot about the time change) and just as I crossed into IN from Louisville, I saw a sign that read "Clark County Airport". I decided to stop in and see what was there since I'd never been there and knew nothing about it. As I came around the corner I saw Big Ass Bird II and Hurry Home Honey and then this Corsair, still in primer. Whoa! What a surprise. I had no idea those planes were based there. They also had several F-86's that were in the back of a hangar, projects for a later day. I picked up a brochure for the Warbirds Weekend later that summer and went the next year too. Man, those were great shows. I have transferred my (very) amateur videos of those shows to dvd; if I ever get really technically savvy, I'd be glad to share those here.
