New .049 models

I have two model planes ; Miss America P-51, and a Spitfire. Both are new in the original boxes, never flown or opened. They are plastic, line control, (U control), with fine little Cox .049 gas engines. I have flown a slow Cub type Cox trainer, but I have been told these are fast so I haven't tried them. I believe they are not made anymore, and might be worth preserving. Does anyone know these or their value?

They can be worth a lot more than they were when they were first bought.

I had a damaged light blue Spitfire, with no box, a few years ago that I sold at an avaition flea market for $40.00.
The T-28 I still have is even rarer and can go for a couple hundred.

Anybody remember a skyraider? I had one as a kid in the sixties.wish I still had it.

My brother had the Skyraider. I had a PT-19, P-40 and Stuka.
Boy, were they ever fun to fly!
My cousin and I use to see how slow we could fly the PT-19 with out hitting the wheels on the ground. The hard part was adjusting the tumble so there was just a little "too much" mixture, so the engine would run slower.

If you hammer the needle through it will damage it.Not if you just slide it in there to push any clogged,dry fuel out.I have done this hundreds of times and my engines works great.FWIW I decided to fire up a TD.051 in a new model I just finished......it had been a while since this one had run.....and all it would do was run for a moment on the prime.I pulled the carb. and used some very fine fuse wire into all the small holes to make sure they were clear in it, put it back together.....she goes.Old castor has a habit of doing that, even with a decent flush out and oil up when done for the day.

I had the P-51 in silver. I logged 3 or 4 takeoffs but only 1 intact landing. Those things really were a handful. I'm sure only a few retro fetishists are still flying .049s now. Electric is better, quieter and so much less messy. For that matter, parkflyer RC is cheaper now than line control used to be. But they are loved by collectors for sure.
