If they had put that Anglo French masterpiece on board ala Concorde it would have been a simple matter of checking the chocks and telling the pilot to push the throttles forward a little!

An article in today's newpaper says the US Navy is going to spend 3 million buks to help free the ship from the silt. Lets hope they are successful.

I heard on the radio this morning that the ship is no longer stuck in the mud and is on the way to drydock in New Jersey.

If you ask me, it was pretty depressing. I mean I loved being on it and the feeling you were standing where history actually took place. Especially the presentation they had in the hangar deck talking about kamikazees crashing right through that very spot. But the planes are in such sad shape and layed out so poorly. You feel bad watching them rot like so many derelicts.
They say they are going to open up a lot more spaces of the carrier for the public, which would be great, and spruce up the planes.

Some of the planes needed some work, but some I thought were in pretty good shape. Then the ones in the hangar deck were in great shape, .ike the TBM. I think it is important for people to get the chance to get on to these aircraft carriers and see what it is like to be on one at least for a few hours.

Mustang Driver, it is a real experience to overnight on one. I have had the pleasure of overnighting on Lexington 7 times! No I'm not a wannabe swabby. How do you spell masochist ?

Rick,

Did the same thing here in Charleston on the Yorktown about 12-13 years ago, in July. Talk about masochistic. This one was spelled Civil Air Patrol cadets. Only good thing about the experience was the flight over here from Atlanta (Dobbins AFB) in a C-130.
