I was able to get one poor shot of Rascal at the 1988 Geneseo airshow, only if I had a digital camera those years at the show. I really wish I took 10x the amount of pictures.

Someday when I get my film scanner I'll try to "fix" shots like this.

interesting item on "Rascal":

the fuselage band (red-yellow-red) was used on all USAAF aircraft during the occupation period in Germany from late 1945 to 1947 - I have photographs of P-51's, P-47's, A-26's, AT-6's, P-61's, etc. with that sort of markings.....

Jeff, Yes, on arrival for the show a RAF Victor crashed short of the runway and sat there the whole weekend. Steve T has a seat out of the aircraft and the nose section went to the CWH and was later sold to Walter Soplata.

Any word on Mr. Fergusen?

I heard he was in poor health a while back, and have not heard anything since. Great pictures from back in the days. I saw Bob out washing the airplane on a weekend in the middle of Hanscom, the black paint was new at the time. He was pretty darn funny that day. I had also heard stories about him kicking a rod out the side of the engine near Hanscom and dead sticking it back in a long time ago. A friend of mine walked up while Bob was sitting on the wing, he was joking about the bad day he had just had, and looked at the hole in the cowling. I would assume that, that may have prompted the paint change that time.

There were stories in our area the Bob was a Corsair Driver, and he had a bunch of them prior to the P-51. Any idea?

I live in Alabama. Any idea where this P-51 is to be based from?

Thanks.

Bob, along with Howard Pardue, brought a whole batch of Corsairs from Honduras in about 1979. They flew them back. There was a neat story about it in Air Comics. Once back in the states, they sold them off. Howard kept his for a while, but must have sold it after the engine failure at the top of a loop and subsequent crash a few years back. I'm not sure, but I think the Red Bull Corsair was the one Bob owned and flew for a bit in the early 1980's.

And here's one I just finished tinkering with today that has the same paint scheme...
