I found these photos of an airshow in Ft. Worth (Amon Carter Airport) in 1972
I'm the 7 year old snappy dresser
Anybody know which Mustang this is?

The Mustang looks to be a Cavalier variant. Was the ME 109 a CAF bird?

Yes I believe that is the Old CAF 109. It Should be C4K-169 and should be registered as N109W.

I just cant figure out who's B-17 in the background.

Yep... that is Vernon Peterson's old Mustang. It was based at Denton for a few years.

I did just alittle bit of work on the tail cone at my old job. That was after it was wrecked and before it was sold to Banta.

The B-17 is/was also CAF based at Houston Hobby as part of Gulf Coast Wing.

I can't recall for sure but isn't that Mustang the one Charley Hilliard was KIFA on take off at Denton maybe 10 years ago?

The CAF 109 is one of the post WWII Spaniard jobs with the Merlin Engine and believe one of the ones used to film Battle of Britain with Michael Caine?

Vernon S. Peterson, Valley View, TX, 1968-1978.
- Registered as N51PW, April 1978.
- Registered as N51VP, 19??.
Universal Life Church, TX, 1983-1984.
J. Bradford Enterprises, Prescott, AZ, 1987-1989.
- Crashed on take-off, Denton, TX, Sept. 6, 1989.
-- Peterson killed.

Guess this answers that.

must be something in the water in Denton County. Hilliard was KIFA heading out at Denton, lost power and tried to turn to comeback to runway instead of taking it straight in - and stalled out. Different Mustang and date - same airport.

Unless there is another Charlie Hilliard, I believe Charlie Hillard was killed at Sun-n-Fun in 96 when his Sea Fury flipped over on landing after a brake locked. He was asphixiated when his head was pinned forward.

Paul Morgan in the UK was killed in an identical accident as well.

So, if you ever buy a Fury/Sea Fury, or any plane with a bubble canopy, install a roll bar.

Peterson killed

A few post's above with show it. You have to check the fuel for water!
I saw the Me-109/Casa at San Marcos the next year, 1973, my first show. They had a small fire in it and left it out on the taxi way. Also the first time I met Lefty 8)

Zane,

You are the first person that I have ever seen that has pictures from that Airshow other than myself. Strangely enough, I was also 7 years old at the time. Who knows we probably even ran into each other there :D

Here are a couple more pics from that airshow. The first one is a full shot of the B-17 that is now Texas Raiders.

This is one of the CAF P-40
