XP-55 Ascender Anyone??

Fri Sep 08, 2006 9:46 pm

Hello everyone, just before Thunder Over Michigan Steve D. and I stopped at AirZoo and took a look around. One of the awesome projects that just got finished up over there was the XP-55 Ascender. I FINALLY put some photos of it on my webshots account. Take a look and tell me what you think.

Take care,
Dave D.

Thanks for posting the pics of the XP-55 Davey. I find it interesting that one main tire has the block tread, while the other is a diamond tread pattern tire... Guess the block tread style must be difficult to get ahold of.

I scanned through your other albums. I still can't believe all the stuff Warren Walkinshaw had collected. I should have bought one of those Stearmans. :(

I also enjoyed looking back at the photos of Tulio and his PT-19 fuselage. You won't meet a nicer guy in the world than Mr. Soto.

Many thanks for posting all the shots of the Ascender so those of us far from the Air Zoo can appreciate their fine restoration work. I last saw this a/c at Silver Hill many years ago when it badly needed the TLC the Air Zoo was able to provide since then.

Hi all,

I remember seeing the Ascender at Silver hill many years ago while it was in storage. And it was NO WAY close to the fine restoration that is now on it's feet again. The Air Zoo did a fine job ! Thanks for posting the photo's.

Question for Steve Dennis:
Is the photo in your name box a PT-23 or a Timms N2-T? If its a Timms any more photos. Rare bird, I had a project a few years back that I never got to.

Thanks for sharing the XP-55 photos Dave.

Obergrafeter, that's Greg Herrick's PT-23.

The Air Zoo did a fine job on this plane. Maybe they should ask for another project from NASM.

Hi Obergrafeter,

As Dan pointed out, the Avatar is a pic of a PT-23 owned by Greg Herrick, with my daughter Jenna posing in front of it. PT's are my passion, (doesn't matter if they're Fairchild, Boeing, Ryan, Naval Aircraft Factory, or whatever).

I do, however, have some pictures that I took at Oshkosh a year or so ago of another Wisconsinite's Timm N2T-1 that he just finished restoring, along with a bunch of pictures of three or four Timm projects that another restorer has stored just across the border from me in Minnesota. I would be happy to e-mail them to you if you would like.

Thanks for your interest,

Steve

Thank's mate!

Yes I would like to see the Timms pictures. My project went up north and don't know which one it is. I think it is the one that is complete and now flying(possibly for sale)

They have received another project from NASM, a V-1 Buzz Bomb. I got to look at it this past weekend. It's in alot of pieces, but it's all there. I was amazed to see that they're made of wood! Will certainly be an interesting project. Sorry, no pics as I didn't have my camera.
