I know someone here can answer this question about Heathrow

I've been to Heathrow quite a few times but have never had to transfer from
Terminal 1 (British Midland) to terminal 3 (United).
We arrive at terminal 1 at 1350 and our UAL flight departs terminal 3 at 1620. We'll have to pick up our bags from BMI and check in with UAL by about 1500. Think it can be done?
If we don't make the 1620 UAL, we get to spend a night in London. (Granted, that ain't all bad but it's expensive. :shock:

)

I'll 'preciate any info and/or encouragement.

ps. If anyone knows, how do you pronounce the French town of Bayeux?

My recollection of high school French (in which I got straight "C"s) makes me think it would be pronouncicated "Bay-Yo."

I believe they're requesting a 3-hour check-in for International flights at the moment due to additional security checks.

Either way, it's going to be VERY tight.

T1 to T3 is a 10-minute bus trip, but it will depend on how long you have to wait for the bus.

Sorry, no experience with Heathrow.
But about speaking French... just forget about the last characters. Bayeux = Bayue basically.
Always try to make yourself clear in French first, when they don't understand, try English. Their English sounds funny and they know it, that's why they refuse to speak it. But a lot of them can.

A valid point.

There's a suburb of Sheffield called Beauchief. Pronounced Beechiff if you want the natives to know what you're talking about.

However, there's a famous tapestry in, or from, Bayeux about the Norman invasion a little while ago so it's one French town that most of us know how to pronounce.

I would say more Bay-yer than Flat12x2 said but you'll probaly find it either way.

The last time I flew out of London on United (I'm an employee), I asked one of the CSR's walking around where I should go ( as an employee) and I was taken to the front of the first class line, no waiting. Worked out great for me. Good luck.

Very true , but a least that's better than just plain never trusting the French :lol:

Certainly yes , Biew-lee sounds right to me

( I only live 50 miles away from there)

I would agree with dhfan , either his or mine , of course how we pronounce it depends on how /where we were brought up , norrwwrffff or soouuwwfff :wink:

Mike...Retired UAL here. I usually go to the first class line, too. When you're my size and act like you know what you're doing, you can get away with a lot of things :shock:

. And since we have to wear a tie and such, it's much easier to LOOK like you know what you're doing.
I'm also concerned about space on a Friday flight.

Getting to Bayeux (however it's pronounced) and back ain't easy.
IAD to LHR
Pick up bags
Go to terminal 1
Get on BMI to CDG
CDG to train station
Train to Bayeux.
Then do it all backwards to get home.
(Thank you, but I already have cheese to go with that

you should have plenty of time - they always say 3 hours

I was at LHR Term3 last week on a flt to Toronto and I was 5 mins at check-in (self-service) and 10 mins in security

it all depends on the time of day - always use the self check-in if you can otherwise you WILL be in line for ever with the other technophobes
