Yeah, I had always thought wuh-na-kuh.

Of course when I was in the UK I couldn't pronounce Towcester (let alone Leicester) correctly either.

The Leicester in The Common Wealth of Massachusetts is pronounced “Lest-Stir”. With a silent "R" of course.

When taking the train around England we passed Leicester and we thought that was pretty funny because that is where both of my Sister-in-laws lived at the time, one still does.
