Perhaps this is a stupid question but...

Is there 1 website/thread that simply lists who is working on what? I know there are many people/groups/companies working on restoring aircraft.. some static some with the goal to fly, but it's really hard to see/keep track of who is doing what/where they are at/goals/progress/etc..

Is it on here and I'm just missing it?

The one place I know where it gives a status is the Warbirds Registry pages. Not sure if you've seen this but disregard if you have. It has some info as to whether an airplane is airworthy,under restoration etc. Its a start and it depends on how hard the information is to find and also if the owners want them listed.

As a private owner of a vintage plane, could you shed any light on why someone wouldnt want to scream from the rooftops they have a vintage plane?

I don't have an answer for that one other than many of these guys derive a sense of stress relief by flying these vintage warbirds or antiques. Many are high profile people and this gives them some sense to get away from all the hustle and bustle. Most of these guys are the kindest people I know.

Museums are usually looking for donations so they typically tell everyone in an attempt to raise funds. Private owners are sometimes just that, private. They feel it is their business and nobody else's. Often those in the industry know who is working on what, but some owners don't want their time wasted with inquiries and visitors. They would rather spend their valuable time restoring the plane. Warbird restoration businesses are not museums. They need to work efficiently for their customers. Some companies feel a website generates business, others think word of mouth works better. Yet other owners want their restorations to be a surprise at airshow "X" so they keep a lid on things as best they can. Lastly, I know a few folks who are concerned about security. It seems to not happen as often now (for various reasons), but there are theives among us. Parts sometimes grow legs.

There are lots of reasons just as there are lots of different personalities.

Ahh, all things to think about. i didnt even think that their could be some suprise restoration being worked on right now that might unveil itself.. that must be really cool to be a part of
