Trae--

More properly it's the "ex-Travolta" airplane, and colour me surprised to see it's at OSH. This is Allan Rubin's ex-RCAF deHavilland Vampire F.3, still wearing the RAF desert camo livery it wore when Mr Travolta owned it. It had latterly been in store in a hangar at Peterborough, Ontario. Mr Rubin's aircraft are not frequently seen in public. Hope he opts to change that state of affairs with the Vamp!

Forget the SUV, what is up with the dash 5 Corsair with all the odd coloured panels? Someone's new restoration and they did'nt have time to paint it before the show ala Chas. Osborne back in 1995? Whose is it and what's the scoop?

Mark

the pictures were taken back in 88 when the restoration was completed in florida for Peter Thelen, and the a/c was painted soon after, as far as the multi colors the aircraft was restored using parts from 2 airframes, the yellow is zinc chromate primer, the Corsair is now owned by Jim Read

Oh yeah, the SUV crash resulted from an overeager female Travolta fan.

Actually, Mr. Waltrip's -5 was parked down in the rather commercialized West Ramp area--the SUV is part of a display in which it's climbing over a simulated obstacle.
