Col Rohr,

I beg to differ with you in respect to the Connie down at Fantasy of Flight. As I was there over the Fourth of July weekend myself, I asked one of the folks down there from F.O.F. where the Connie came from. They informed me that is was indeed as the topic speaks of, part of the three from Maine. However, I was informed, very strongly, that the Connie that is down at F.O.F. will never fly again. The reasons I was told were not imediately known or spoken of, but rather that the Connie will remain ground bound. Unless the folks down their were/are/could be misinformed and passed that along to me, I am just letting you know what I know and was told.....

In other words...don't shoot the messangeer....but I'll duck anyway <grin>

Man, if I had a copilot like that my life would be set.

But man, look at the size of those things...the engines that is!

To get back to real life, I have seen an article in Air Classics about those two C-121's. It was a few years ago, but it said both were going to be flying. But times have changed and I can see using one for spare parts. Ya hate to do it that way, but it makes the process much faster AND cheaper.

Nathan,

These aircraft are not C-121s. They are L-1649A Starliners. There were no military versions of these aircraft. They were the top of the Constellation line, and were the Queens of the Sky for the time they were in passenger service, which was regrettably short due to the advent of the 707 and DC-8.
