Here's a couple of shots my step-dad took of the USS Saratoga's COD
which he flew the right seat of regularly. These were taken at NS Mayport in 1978.

In 72-73 I had the pleasure of being a crew member assigned to the pictured COD; better known then, on Yankee Station, and in Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, etc., as the "Rooster Rocket". I got out in 01/74 and at that time we still had the "Rooster Rocket" painted on the nacelles and it was still our call sign. Wondered what happened to her, when we got back from Nam Sara went in dry-dock we went TAD to VRC-40. On receiving inspection the rooster was grounded for several deficiencies which included approx. 80% of the wing locks being cracked...good thing we didn't know that in Nam we might have had something to worry us :) Anyway glad to see she continued to serve...sad to see she lost her designation and combat call sign "ROOSTER ROCKET".
