Riverside, California, 5-7-43. Radio station KPRO hosted a war bond drive and promoted it with a P-38F that was parked in the middle of a residential neighborhood.

I really like when these old photos come up. This ship was only 15 ships ahead of Glacier Girl in the assembly line.

You might have thought they'd use a different type, even with the outer wing panels off, that's a wide airplane for the narrow streets of the day. I wonder if Lockheed helped?

We've seen many photos of similar events, there were a lot of hours expended getting warbirds in unlikely places for public events and bond tours.

Might make an interesting book.

Postwar, I have come across similar aircraft, the Idaho ANG kept an early F-86 as a recruiting tool, taking it to schols...I wonder if they modified the wings for easier disassembly?

Anyone out there remember the Air Force Orientation Group in the 70-90s?
They'd haul a current type jet (T-38s IIRC) for recruiting and general PR.
I saw them in the early.'80s with a prototype A-10. It made a impressive display, bur.I don't think they kept it long because it was too big and required a second trailer for the one piece wings.
They were based out of the Gentle AFS, near Dayton.

They group was closed in the early '90s, falling victim to post Cold war cuts.
