Is there a link to the afore mentioned video? I've gone to the Coulson site and don't see it.

Nice video, beautiful landing.
I winder how many calls 911 and the media received about a large aircraft ditching in the bay? :)

Pretty pissed I could not make it down, too short notice.

Lot of history in that lagoon. Everyone thinks of the China Clippers and Treasure Island, but they actually started from Alameda in the early days.

Just saw a pic of it sitting on Lake Plesant in Arizona.

Glad they had a safe flight.

Now the hard part.....
This should be interesting. :)

The video of it flying out of the Bay after crossing over the Golden Gate Bridge made the evening news shows in the SF Bay Area. THAT kind of thing doesn't happen often.

Looks like they got a couple T-6s and a PB4Y in the slot.

The Mars makes that PB4Y look like a little toy aeroplane. Good to see that they got her to Arizona safe and sound!

Privateer escort was a nice touch

Who's Privateer?

Re: Mars updates?

Tue Feb 11, 2025 2:17 pm

Privateer is N2871G operated by Gosshawk Unlimited on behalf of its owner. I think its the only airworthy example so a once in a lifetime formation for sure.

Must be a massive relief for Coulson to get the Mars to Arizona. Too bad the San Diego stop didn't happen, would have been neat to see it moored near the USS Midway. Saw a comment saying there was concerns with the weather so they went to the final stop.

Bummer that the incoming storms made them cut the farewell tour short, but I understand.

Nice long video of her departure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vgh5z1o ... EWSBAYAREA

Good article about her here: https://www.twz.com/air/the-last-mars-f ... iation-era
